As an artist I combine my artwork with my passion for training dogs. For this exhibition, at Dean Clough Art Gallery, Halifax, my theme of focus has developed into the 'Colours of Agility' - to capture the colour speed and dynamics of the sport, how it feels to compete. My use of colours are chosen to create a vibrant atmosphere, and also to symbolise the competitive element in the activity to gain that elusive clear round and the quest for the prestige of earning a first, second or third place rosette - which I have used to create the initial base layer to my paintings and interwoven into the final compositions.

I am primarily interested in ‘process’, and in this element my art and my attraction to competitive canine sports is intrinsically connected. It is the process of training the dogs that I find so captivating, as is the process of developing my art. My work reflects the creative process rather then a fixed moment or visual fact. I avoid seeking a well ordered uniformed correctness, and by doing so I seek to maintain momentum and spontaneity and communicate to the viewer the living process involved in training and working my dogs, the feel of moment, the speed and changing directions of the agility run, and the joy and pleasure that the sport of agility gives to both the dogs and their handlers.
